1: Lie supine, sacrum centred over the middle gridline on the base mat. Hips at 0° with legs flat on the mat.

2: Lower housing height to align pads with the apex of lateral malleolus of each ankle.

3: Ensure the sensor arms are at right angles to the ankles and stable on the gradual application of pressure.

4: Movement of either sensor arm on the application of force indicates a. Incorrect contact point on lateral malleolus, or b. Sensor is not at right angles to the malleolus. Amend position and apply pressure to re-test alignment.

5: Feet in line with knees/hips and patella (knee caps) point to the ceiling.

6: Record height of the top of carriers.

Cues

1: Test bilaterally - Abduction.

2: Push ankles towards the sensors, separating upper thighs.

3: Maintain lumbar neutral, flat/still sacrum, and abdominal wall flat/hollow.

4: Discourage gluteal contraction.

5: Build to maximum force over 5 seconds.
