1: Lie on non-testing side, with hips and trunk neutral and knees at 90° flexion. Flat pad 1cm above lateral malleolus of upper leg.
2: Start with neutral transverse plane hip rotation. Use wedges/pillows to maintain separation of knees and feet, keeping hip neutral in the frontal plane.
3: If the subject has < 15° of internal rotation range, separate knees with towel/block 5cm for each 5° of IR lacking to ensure testing is not too near end of available hip IR range
4: Adjust subject and housing position to place the pad lightly over the lateral malleolus of the upper leg with the sensor arm at right angles to tibia
1: Test unilaterally
2: Describe femoral rotation axis through femur, describing the plane of rotation (not abduction)
3: Squeeze ankle bone up into the sensor pad as knees stay together
4: No lifting of upper thigh or change in trunk position
5: Build to maximum force over 5 seconds
